- An Introduction of FTTC (Fiber to the Cabinet)
What is FTTC? – Fiber to the Cabinet Fiber to the cabinet is a connectivity technology that is based on a combination of fiber optic cable and copper cable. The fiber optic cable is in place from the local telephone exchange to a distribution point (commonly called a roadside cabinet), hence the name fiber to the cabinet. From this distribution point, a standard telephone line based on copper is then used to deliver the broadband connectivity. How does FTTC work? Basically, FTTC is a fiber optic connection from the switch to the cabinet that is shared between various people over copper telephone lines. Fiber optic connections are made from your nearest switch to the nearest “cabinet”. These cabinets are green boxes that you may see locally that are used to distribute the Internet to various people on the network. Otherwise, it’s worth checking your actual estimated speeds before signing any contracts. Benefits of FTTC ●Low PriceFTTC is one of the cheapest Internet connections available in China. - How FTTH is Achieved?
Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) is a broadband network architecture that uses optical fibre to deliver high-speed Internet and other communications services directly to homes. This involves an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) at the central office, which drives an Optical Distribution Network (ODN) that routes signals to multiple homes using passive optical splitters along the way. So how fibre-to-the-home is installed? Ⅰ. Pre-burieded main cables Firstly, the construction team needs to dig a trench near the community to splice the feeder cable to the backbone fibre-optic cable. Ⅱ. Drop cable access to the cell Pull feeder cable out of the ground or tube via a lead-through to access your plot or yard outside your house. Ⅲ. - FTTA Key Components and Infrastructure

Transmitters at the BBU side convert electrical signals into optical signals suitable for transmission over the fiber. Receivers at the RRH end perform the reverse operation, converting the received optical signals back into electrical signals. Remote Radio Heads (RRHs): The RRH is located near the antenna and is responsible for amplifying the electrical signals received from the optical fiber and transmitting them wirelessly. It also performs functions such as signal modulation and demodulation. RRHs are designed to be compact and energy – efficient, enabling easy installation at various antenna sites. Base – Band Units (BBUs): BBUs are the central processing units of the base station. They handle the digital signal processing tasks, such as encoding, decoding, and managing the communication with the core network. In a FTTA – based network, BBUs are connected to multiple RRHs through optical fibers, allowing for centralized control and management of the wireless network. Infrastructure Installation: The installation of FTTA infrastructure requires careful planning. Fiber optic cables need to be laid, either underground or overhead, depending on the terrain and local regulations. In urban areas, underground fiber installation is often preferred to avoid interference and maintain the aesthetics of the cityscape. In addition, proper protection of the fiber cables is necessary to prevent damage from environmental factors, construction activities, or other potential hazards. The FTTA infrastructure also needs to be integrated with the existing wireless network infrastructure, including the core network, power supply systems, and other supporting equipment.
